Custody hearing timeline questions???

I am going to be seeking full custody of my son and requesting for permission to take him out of the state for a new job. Approxmately how long does it take to obtain the order, and can I move out of state while this is pending? I was told by the clerk at the local courthouse that I can attend the custody hearing telephonically, does anyone have any experience with this?
