Which is better laptop(pc-based) or laptop(macbook or any mac notebook)?

In terms of the compatibility and reliability?And also in terms of the upgrades you can do with it which of them has the advantage?Because I'm afraid in the long run that my laptop would be obsolete and can't even upgrade. Which of them should I choose to buy?
